Thankful

People say this is the season to be thankful, which should not be reserved for a particular time. I think about those people who have influenced me over the years. Today, I am thinking about the authors who have blessed me throughout my life—Louisa May Alcott, Edith Wharton, Jane Austen, Dorothy Parker, Felix Salten, Michael Cunningham, Virginia Woolf, Rabindranath Tagore, Emily Dickinson, Warsan Shire—and all the other authors who have helped me step through a portal into extraordinary places. They taught me that through the power of words, you can meet people who will be lifelong friends and a lifeline of hope when you need to escape. The older I get, the more reclusive I become, but I am never alone. My bookshelves are full of voices and loyal friends whom I love. The authors taught me who I want to be and how blessed the joy of fellowship with kindred spirits is. I cannot imagine a world without books or music. They are the treasures I am most grateful for.

Pass with peace,

Mae
